Chapter History
The Clearwater Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on April 2, 1977 by twelve insightful sorors. The chartering service was held at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Soror Yvonne Kennedy, the Southern Regional Director at the time, conducted the ceremony.
The fortitude of our charter members created the first African-American Greek letter organization in Clearwater. For almost two decades, these women were dedicated members of the St. Petersburg Alumnae Chapter. After organizing as a chapter in the fall of 1976, their goals were to make contributions in social welfare, educational improvement and cultural enrichment to benefit the Clearwater community. Since being chartered, Clearwater Alumnae Chapter has accomplished its’ goals as well as those of the national organization of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. After 45+ years, the chapter continues to thrive and maintain its commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, and service within our community.
